Coconut Development Board (CDB) chairperson Usha Rani has said that coconut farmers facing difficulties due to price fluctuations in the market should be supported for better utilisation of technologies to realise higher productivity and income, according to a news report in The Hindu on June 17. A press release issued by the Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) said that CDB chairperson stressed the need of enhancing income for coconut growers through effective technology integration while delivering the valedictory address of the refresher training program (RTP) on ‘Hybridisation technique in coconut’ conducted on June 15 for the officers of the CDB at the CPCRI.

The release also said that she called for farmer-oriented technology transfer intiatives since coconut in the country was predominantly a smallholder’s crop. Action plan would be formulated and implemented to equip the demonstration-cum-seed production farms (DSP farms) under CDB located in various parts of the country to demonstrate technologies for enhancing income from coconut farming and also the coconut seedling production, especially seedlings of hybrid varieties.
